T.E Plays: Bloody Wolf

During the late eighties Data East made a streak of ‘commando on a mission’ games to capitalise on the growing demand for such titles. Following the success of SNK’s popular coin-op Ikari Warriors, Data East published their own take on the genre firstly with Midnight Resistance in 1987 and then Bloody Wolf the year after, the latter soon found its way onto the home console with an exclusive port for the PC Engine released in 1989. The game was a remixed version of the original featuring bigger levels, a tweaked storyline, and the addition of one extra stage.

Under the radar #1

We all know the likes of Gunhed, Dracula X, and Bomberman, the same titles that feature again and again whenever the PCE is discussed but the system had a vast library of great games, so inevitably a lot got lost in the fray. We have picked out two games to highlight that have generally been overlooked.

T.E Plays: Vigilante

Originally developed for the arcade and published by Irem in 1988, Vigilante was an indirect sequel to the company’s earlier hit Spartan X / Kung-Fu Master. The following year a PC Engine conversion was released and was Irem’s first in-house game for system after previously having Hudson port over R-Type in ’88.
